Bourgas

Bourgas is the fourth largest city in Bulgaria, it has everything you could want from a city from shopping on the pleasant tree-lined avenues to nightlife and street festivals.

Bourgas and its airport are approx 25 mins drive from St Vlas and Sunny Beach.

Bourgas is located at the most western part of Bourgas Bay, on a peninsula. It is surrounded by three lakes, Mandra Lake, Bourgas Lake and Atanasavo Lake. The climate is said to be very favourable for recuperation with mild winters and long sunny summers. Its beaches are well known for the black sand that is said to have special healing powers!!!

Bourgas has an excellent geographical position and transport infrastructure, this has meant that trade and tourism have developed well in recent years. The Port of Bourgas is one of the major Bulgarian ports.
The port provides a vital link between the western and eastern coast of the Black Sea.

The main attraction is still however, undoubtedly the sea.

St Vlas

History

Bourgas started as a small Roman military colony called Deultum, later it became known as Develt. Its first inhabitants were the Thracians. It wasn’t until the 17th century that Bourgas received its present name. It was first named Ahelo-Burgas but then changed after the liberation to Burgas. At that time it was just a small town but over time it has grown into the centre of the southern Black sea coast.
